Structure

The short story “Sredni Vashtar” by Saki is structured around a simple plot following the character of a young boy, Conradin. The boy hates his cousin who takes care of him and begins to worship a ferret he keeps in a cage. The boy’s imagination and hate are both so strong that the boy eventually pleads to the ferret asking for the death of his cousin. An interesting aspect of the short story is that the cousin dies (although in real life ferrets cannot kill people, but only bite them).

The story also features a classical plot line, having an exposition, a rising action, a climax, a falling action and a resolution.
