Dave Eggers’ The Circle offers a strong warning against allowing a single technology company to gain a monopoly over the internet. It shows how such a company can be very dangerous, even if it appears to be working for the good of society. The novel’s message is that tools apparently designed to improve safety and convenience can be monetized and used to control the population.
In particular, The Circle warns against the destruction of privacy and against the idea that human beings could and should know everything.
